I often have to tell people that I don't particularly want to be a pilot. I understand their logic: conventional aviation interests center around, well, planes. Another common assumption is that my interest in airports stems from a desire to travel (which I have, but as a detached phenomenon) or a fondness for people-watching (which is certainly a worthwhile way to pass the time while in an airport, but isn't exactly something I'm passionate about).

Any care I have for planes or airlines stems exclusively from their relation to airports, and really, when it comes to airports, what I care about is the interior as seen by the average traveler. Everything between that first step into the terminal, approaching the ticketing desk, and the moment one passes through the jetbridge at the gate to get on board their flight — that's what calls to me personally.

I've spent a lot of time mentally unpacking the potential "reasons" behind how much I'm drawn to them. I've landed on some solid theories that I've touched upon on these main pages and might expand upon further as I develop the site, but honestly, I think the most important aspect of it is totally standalone and self-evident. It's kind of like the way people don't wholly question why they find a sunset beautiful. It just is.
